  1. Healthy soil is so important in growing a healthy plant or crop. Its known that compost does not contribute much in the way of recalcitrant soil carbon, the carbon that makes a soil healthy and gives it a better structure. In the Dec. 2001 issue of the Journal of Chemical Education there's an article on Humic Acids, where they say "Humic Acids are essential for a healthy and productive soil". You may want to get Michael Melendrez from Soil Secrets LLC or the State Agronomist with the USDA NRCS to articulate with your blog to help educate home owners on how they can use Humic Acids to improve their soils. You may also want to offer those type of products at your store. Michael is the creator of the concept of the Soil Food Web and how it works.

    1. For a long time we have been big fans of humic acid and it is present in our Back to Earth Compost and Gro-Power fertilizer which we’ve sold in Silver City since 1995. The Fox Farm Fertilizers added to our inventory several years ago also contain humic acid. We have an extensive landscape at our home including an herb garden, several fruit trees and a vegetable garden all of which have thrived using these products. That is why we recommend them.

If you are interested in having Michael Melendrez inform Grant County residents about improving their soil perhaps you could contact the Cooperative Extension Office and set up some kind of community program. We feel we have covered the subject well enough for the average homeowner without getting bogged down in minute details.
